I know that dolls purchased at the MCM sale in the summer are not allowed to be returned to American Girl, but I was wondering: are these dolls allowed to visit the doll hospital for a new head or body? Does anyone know?

Of course, but you have to pay. I would also expect that if you got a new torso, they'd put another little x on her butt.

Yes, the doll hospital prices are not cheap! But it does take some of the risk away from buying one (marked "X") from ebay. And if you couldn't send them to the hospital ... well, in that case an ebay purchase would be too risky for my nerves!

I bought a couple of 18" AG's and all 4 of the HSH dolls at the sale this year in Madison. They are all fine. But of course, I got to pick them out myself.
While some of the dolls may be defective for some reason or other at the sale, you should also remember that a lot of dolls are just returned. A lot of our own members will return a doll simply because they couldn't bond with her, changed their minds, or some minor flaw really stood out to them. That same flaw might not have bothered someone else. All of that is fine and well and they are justified to make their returns if they are not 100% happy. But, all those dolls end up at the same place: Madison.
All I'm saying is that you could get a basically perfect doll from Madison as well. Our Asian AGT (who Diana finally named as Madison) is perfect in every way, and we're very happy with her and the 4 HSH dolls too.
Good luck with your ebay purchases!
Laurie
ps..editing to add that silver eye will be repaired free of charge even for a Madison doll. I had that verified by AG last year.

So--what kind of prices are there at this MCM sale? Like for a doll?
And do any of you go with the intent to buy and then resell (on ebay or whatever)? I know that it should be disclosed in the auction if it is an X doll or tag is cut etc.
Do we have the exact dates? I have a friend who just moved to SD and has a sister in WI, so dd and I could use this as an excuse to go there maybe??

and remember that items are cleaned and "fixed" to the best of the volunteers abilities before they are put up for sale at Madison.
I sure wish I was able to go one time.

Dolls are $50 each, unless they're LEs, then they tend to be more. It's always the middle weekend in July, for more info go to www.madisonchildrensmuseum.com It's a blast!!

The HSH dolls were $35 and then on Sunday one of them, Skylar I think, was marked to $25.
Also on Sunday the AGT dolls were marked to $35 instead of $50. Historical dolls all stayed at $50. Many are sold out on Saturday, so if you really want a particular one, don't wait for the price to go down on Sunday.
The best buys of all at Madison are on the furniture items. I got all of the Kit furniture, table/chairs, desk and trundle bed for xmas of '06! They also had great deals on Kaya doll, horse and teepee this year, if I remember correctly, the price for all 3 items was $80!
Also excellent buys on the girls clothing. Girl sized pj's were only $10!
If you can go, I highly recommend it, just hope for non-blistering heat next year!

Laurie - my DD wants Hopscotch Hill Hallie. I have a question about her hair - is it brown or reddish? Also, is her hair easy to play with?
Thanks!

It's brown and yes, easy to play with, you just brush it the same as an 18".
EDIT: Nope, it's not. You made me go look in the closet, she's not "out" yet. Her hair IS a reddish brown, I'd say auburn color.
